WATCH THE STORY OF HEIMAT

In November 2022, Heimat was featured on national tv in Germany (ZDF). This personal portrait explores the background of the founders and how it all started.

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Every good story, they say, starts with a big bang. How about two: a lockdown due to a global pandemic and Brexit. Both of which preventing us from getting our usual “fix” of imported German groceries in 2020. But what’s a goulash without Knödel or breakfast without Brötchen? So, we thought: If we can’t go to Germany ourselves, maybe there’s a way to bring it to the UK. And for a lack of better words, we used these pictures.

 
By the time Christmas arrived, hundreds of orders were placed and we’re packaging boxes day in, day out. And we loved it!

 

TAKING THE NEXT STEP

On the back of the Christmas success, we decided to take Heimat to a another level. In early 2021, we moved to the current website www.heimat.one, redesigned the store, added lots of new products and set up new partnerships with companies in Germany. 

In addition, we launched a regular newsletter and built out our social media presence, allowing us to connect directly with our customers. We changed our suppliers in Germany, sorted out the main issues following Brexit. 

Further to that, we started a collaboration with the fabulous food blogger Marita (www.mydinner.co.uk), allowing us to constantly widen our Recipes & Kitchen Hacks section.

MAKING A LEAP FORWARD

In 2022, as life re-opened, thankfully our customers continued to return and it was time to make a leap: doubling down on the things we do best, providing an excellent customer service and an exceptional shopping experience, and partner with best-in-class companies to do the other important bits.

We upgraded the online store to it's more customer friendly. Changed the entire operational process, so it's faster and more efficient. Entered into a long-term partnership with Edeka, Germany's #1 food retailer.
